Hi. I'm new here and never knew dysgraphia even existed. My son was born with DS and has ASD, he is 8. Can I ask who diagnoses this? And what has schools done to help your child.
Thanks
Tracy and Robbie
Hi Tracy, welcome! For testing, this can be done in school or with an outside pediatric neuro-psychologist. There is some information on the types of tests here: https://www.dysgraphia.life/testing and we will have a new "News" story written by a testing expert soon - stay tuned! For school based accommodations, dysgraphia is considered a "specific learning disability of written expression" and can be addressed with either IEPs or 504 plans (https://www.dysgraphia.life/school). Depending on your child's needs there are a lot of different goals and/or accommodations that can be used although a few of the most common that we see are occupational therapy for handwriting, special writing paper (see https://www.dysgraphia.life/resources ) and talk-to-text computer programs.
Best wishes and let us know how we can help!
