About the Session:

This webinar will focus on handwriting essentials, why it's still important, and how handwriting was affected due to the COVID gap. We will discuss the 3 main facets of handwriting success including specific instruction, grip, and physical approach, and how to adapt each to the child's needs.  We will also tackle some common handwriting issues, how to spot them, and how to implement techniques to improve handwriting skills.  Finally, we will provide an opportunity for questions and additional resources, leaving the parent or teacher feeling confident to handle their handwriting concerns.

About the presenter:

Heather York, COTA, Certified Handwriting Specialist

​

Heather York has been in Occupational Therapy since 2000, and has had the privilege of working with a multitude of populations, including pediatrics thru geriatrics with orthopedic and neurological deficits.  In 2010, Heather became a Certified Handwriting Specialist with Handwriting Without Tears, and focused on tutoring, teaching, remediating handwriting dysfunctions with her young clients.  She also spent several years traveling with Handwriting WIthout Tears setting up the curriculum in public and private schools, training teachers how to implement, and working with other therapists on handwriting analysis and treatment planning.  She continues to tutor children on their handwriting with her practice, Scribble-Write Handwriting, and happily lives in Spring, Texas with her husband and 2 college-aged children.
